Ethiopian Epiphany

January 18 is the eve of the Ethiopian Epiphany where the Ethiopians walk with the Ark of the Covenant to the swimming pool of King Fassiledess to celebrate Timket in Gonder. January 19, in Gondar is a full day program joining in the celebrations of the Timket festival. The Ark of the Covenant is Ethiopia’s holiest relic and every year during the Timket festival, replicas of this famous Ark known as Tabots are paraded around. By choosing to witness the celebrations outside of the towns, you’ll get a very special insight in to the religion of the world’s second oldest Christian country, the swimming pool of King Fassiledess which is used to baptize Christians during Ethiopian Epiphany on 19th of January every year.
